In 1953 Joseph Stalin’s reign of terror in Soviet Union reached new heights - another wave of arrests and executions has just started while he was getting drunk together with his most loyal men in his dacha. But this alcohol-ridden supper will start something new: Stalin suddenly collapses in his study. The problem is that no one dares to check on him during the night - even his guards are too afraid to disturb him, so he simply lies on the floor of his study. In the morning, on the discovery of unconscious Stalin the highest level of party officials gather around him to decide what to do. Even calling a doctor proves to be tricky - the good ones were killed during the purge in recent years, so either they will bring a bad one or will just wait and do nothing. On the other hand if Stalin will survive they will be blamed for not taking any actions, so Beria and Khrushchev decide to bring any doctors they can find. But then Stalin suddenly wakes up...
British comedy based on the true story of what was happening during the Stalin’s last day and the time after his death when Beria and Khrushchev began their silent fight to be the next General Secretary of Soviet communist party. While it contains a lot of true elements the story is told with a lot of dark humour that reflects on how Soviet Union looked like during the transition of power and how the Stalin’s terror has corrupted minds of the people around him.
