Elections approach in Denmark with the governing Liberal Party and the opposition Labour Party neck in neck. Birgitte Nyborg, leader of centrist Moderate Party, decides to pool out of the opposition bloc, thus reducing their chances in the elections. Her spin doctor, cynical Kasper Juul, accidentally finds in his ex-girlfriend, journalist Katrine Fonsmark, flat proof that previous Prime Minister (who had an affair with Katrine) made extravagant purchases for his wife in London using government credit card. Juul gives Birgitte chance to use the receipt during the live debate, but she refuses on principle to make use of such political chance. Through chain of unexpected events Moderate Party is given the chance to form the new government with Birgitte Nyborg as first female Prime Minister of Denmark.
